Many thanks - you're dating is correct, as these horns follow the Selmer dating numbers (see saxpics http://www.saxpics.com/?v=ser&manID=18). You can send photos to mhingley@itcandor.com - it would be good to have another example on here.
These aren't hugely valuable saxophones, it can probably be covered on any general household insurance you have.
Best Wishes - Martin

Hi all

Just searching and found this great site. I have what I think is a Pennsylvania Special, says ‘Made in Czechoslovakia’ but the engraving is very worn. The serial is 264373… does that make it about 1934-5? The person I lent it to had it repadded and it makes a nice warm big sound, but the lacquer needs redoing and I don’t think I have it set up that well (but if it ain’t broke…). Not sure where to send pics but easy to take on my phone… Any ideas? Should I insure it?

Cheers

Hector
Thanks for your comment - it would be great to have a couple of photos so we can compare your saxophones with the many Kohlert's we cover on the site here. My experience to date suggests that Keilwerth and Kohlert worked very much hand in hand. There's a difference in quality with their ranges, rather than between them. The tenor featured here is very poor, while the alto http://saximax.com/2011/01/29/selmer-ps-alto/ is excellent.
I really like both brands - it's a shame Keilwerth no longer manufacture in Germany.
Best Wishes - Martin

I have one here that was left to me by my father.I haven`t a clue how to play it :) Just doing some research as to it`s value when I came upon your blog. It`s a 1960 model with a 99*** serial number.
I was offered £1000 for it by a dealer but as it`s in immaculate condition it would seem to be worth a tad more than that.Have the original receipt into the bargain.

Mr More
Unfortunately I have no knowledge of saxophone shops in Paris - maybe on of our other readers can help there. Hawkes & Son were a British company and their saxophones appear for sale on eBay UK.
There are a number for sale there today.
You have a very strange ambition to own a high 'C' instrument, since they are essentially unusable today as my post describes.
Go for a low 'C' if you want to play the instrument.
Best Wishes - Martin
